 Grade Lane Fire Station
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Client: City of Louisville, Division of Fire
Completed: 1994
Construction Cost: $1,500,000.00
Gross Area: 11,000
The new fire station is located adjacent to Louisville International Airport and a major expressway; consequently, noise directly influenced the design and construction decisions for this facility. Landscaped earthen berms integrate the building into its site design as well as provide sound buffering for sleeping quarters and living areas. Sound attenuating glass block is incorporated to minimize sound transmission while allowing natural daylight to enter the living and apparatus spaces. Areas provided within the building include the Apparatus Bay, Hose Drying Room, Sleeping Quarters with private bathrooms for 18, Living Rm./Dining Rm., Kitchen, Offices, Classroom, Exercise Room, and Public Restrooms.
